LEVi Battery Workshop

im NIO House

NIO is not only dedicated to innovative transport technology, but also explicitly puts the user first. To this end, NIO has already opened 117 NIO Houses worldwide, including in Berlin. The NIO House is intended to be a place of inspiration for the community, "to share joy and grow together", and offers working spaces, various courses, such as yoga, and also entertains with art exhibitions and music evenings.

All in all, a nice concept and a great location, to which LEVi is now inviting people to the battery workshop on November 18, 2024 due to the parallels regarding the exchange stations.

NIO revolutionizes charging solutions

NIO launched with the concept of a battery swapping system, offering its users a unique solution to avoid long charging times by simply changing the battery. By August 2024, NIO will have installed seventeen so-called Power Swap Stations, or PSS for short, in Germany in cooperation with EnBW. In China, there are already 2,464 PSS. With Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) - a battery subscription and NIO Swap (battery swapping within a few minutes) as well as a NIO Charging Map and the NIO Power Home (the wallbox for the home), NIO is redefining the standards of the industry.

Now NIO is expanding its partner network for its battery swap system and is cooperating with other car manufacturers such as Geely, Changan Automobile, JAC, Chery, Lotus, GAC and FAW. The aim of the partnerships is to jointly develop standards for swappable batteries and to set up and share the battery swap system.

Changan Automobile is one of the four largest automobile groups in China. Geely is the parent company of Volvo, Lotus, Proton, Polestar, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, London Taxi, Radar, Geome and Geometry, among others. This merger thus forms an alliance of the most important global players in the automobile industry. To date, almost every manufacturer has developed and built its own batteries - there has been no standardization, so far!

For small batteries, such as those for electrical devices at home, size standards such as A, AA and AAA have long been established. Agreement on common battery sizes would be the first step towards a standard battery for electric cars. Such cross-manufacturer standardization could have a positive impact on the development and manufacturing costs of drive batteries. This would be an advantage for consumers, because NIO now offers its vehicles for sale without a battery, which massively reduces the selling price, and instead offers battery leasing. This would also put an end to the great concern of many consumers that the car will lose its value if the battery only has a low charging capacity. We will clarify what the light vehicle industry can learn from this approach at our battery workshop on November 18th.

We are therefore particularly looking forward to the keynote speech by Dr. Alexander Kunith, who, as Head of Planning at NIO Power Europe, is responsible for the strategic development of the NIO concept in Europe.

Anyone who would like to participate in the free workshop can here register. A few places are still available.
